Here are my favourite books for 2025:

• Conspiracy Nation: Exposing the Dangerous World of Australian Conspiracy Theories by Ariel Bogle & Cam Wilson - great information about conspiracy-minded beliefs and the people who profit from this
• A Physical Education: How I Escaped Diet Culture and Gained the Power of Lifting by Casey Johnston - this (and Liftoff) are listed in the Bookshop's 100 Bestselling Nonfiction Books of 2025!
• The Male Complaint by Simon James Copland - based on his Australian PhD research on the manosphere
• The Shortest History of AI by Toby Walsh - six concise ideas to understand artificial intelligence today

I also really enjoyed Gravity Let Me Go a novel by Brisbane author, Trent Dalton and Little Red Barns: Hiding the Truth form Farm to Fable by (vegan friend) and investigative journalist, Will Potter



After a post by Joan Westenberg on reading more fiction, I decided to focus on less non-fiction, as I seem to be reading a lot of things that I already agree with and am overwhelmed with knowledge and learning, and more fiction to try to use my imagination and inspire more creativity.

When I was at Burleigh for my birthday, my first stop was the second-hand store, Big B Books.

Here's what I bought:


I asked one of the staff for some suggestions (three). I enjoy Nikki Gemmell's writing but had not read her books yet, and have heard Geraldine Brooks is a great author too.

I read Matt Haig's book in a couple of days, and Jessie Stephens' in a day. I returned these two and bought a couple more books (one on Buddhism and one on philosophy).

I finished Kate Grenville when I returned home. I don't believe I have ever read historical fiction before, and thoroughly am enjoying it.

As of this post, I am halfway through The Bride Stripped Bare. 

This xmas/NY period, my focus is on finishing these books, writing on my new Freewrite, and spring cleaning!
